MARVIN PARASRAM

The development of novel synthetic tools for the formation of Carbon–Carbon and Carbon–Heteroatom bonds are of paramount importance. Thus, it is essential that we develop new approaches to forge unique and complex synthetic architectures in an expeditious manner using commodity chemicals and catalysis. The Parasram Lab focuses on developing novel synthetic methodologies featuring (1) modular C–C activation of strained systems via base-metal catalysis; (2) directed C–H functionalization of saturated and unsaturated molecules using photochromic techniques; and (3) difunctionalization of unsaturated molecules under transition-metal catalysis. A fundamental goal of the program will be to develop synthetic methods that will have a broad impact in areas of material-, medicinal-, and agrochemical sciences
